Nonprofits Eligible for Tyson Community Internship Funding
Campus Compact today announced the second year of an award from Tyson Foods that will bring together college students and local nonprofits. The Tyson Foods Summer Community Internship Program will provide an invaluable opportunity for select college students to gain professional experience in nonprofits while making a positive impact in local communities.
The program provides full-time college students an approximately eight-week paid summer internship to assist community organizations and gain experience with diverse social issues. Tyson Foods is underwriting this program, which will offer internships in Summer 2019 in Chicago, Illinois, and Sioux City, Storm Lake and Council Bluffs in Iowa.
Iowa and Illinois Campus Compact affiliates will oversee and administer the program in those states. The application process is now open for both community organizations interested in receiving a grant to host an intern and students interested in being matched up with organizations. In Iowa, organizations in Sioux City, Storm Lake, and Council Bluffs and surrounding areas are eligible to apply. Iowa Campus Compact will work with college and university partners to support intern recruitment.
All nonprofits and public organizations within the designated communities are eligible to apply, however, applications are especially encouraged from those focused directly or indirectly on hunger relief, adult education, and immigrant services. Organizations will be selected based on need and capacity to provide a quality student experience.
Organizations should complete the online application by October 26, 2018. Selected organizations will be notified by early November and expected to attend an orientation session on November 27, 2018 at Morningside College in Sioux City. Organizations must recruit an intern by April 2019. Internships should be full time for approximately eight weeks and interns must attend a kick-off event on June 3, 2019 and a closing event on July 26, 2019.
Interested students can complete the online pre-application at any time. Students who apply before organizations are selected will have the opportunity to see the list of organizations in November and select those they with which they would be interested in working. This pre-application will be updated to include organization names and the opportunity to select them when they are announced. Pre-applications will be sent on to organizations who will reach out to students for interviews. Interested students can also contact the organization directly. Organizations will make all hiring decisions according to program eligibility.
