2020 Social Changemaker Challenge

Brought to you by Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact and Principal Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact (IAMNCC) is excited to announce the 2020 Social Changemaker Challenge, funded by Principal. The Challenge is open to current college students in business or related majors interested in using emerging business skills to address complex social problems. Student teams will be supported in taking a systems-level approach to understanding the problem, identifying gaps, and proposing solutions. The Social Changemaker Challenge uses higher education’s human capital to create innovative solutions to complex social problems. It helps students get experience addressing complex social problems by demonstrating highly sought-after workforce skills like leadership, problem-solving, critical thinking, adaptability, and teamwork. Student teams will work with a local community or campus partner to submit an application to participate. The application will include a description of the problem and plans for the partnership. 2020 Civic Action Academy

Registration now open! The 2020 Civic Action Academy will be held on November 13 online. For the fourth year in a row, this unique professional development opportunity will bring students from Iowa and Minnesota together to learn new ways of making a difference and building skills through civic and community engagement. Sessions will offer skill-building in civic action including philanthropy, leadership, dialogue, advocacy, and more. Students will also have a chance to learn what others are doing on other campuses and network with peers. The event is free to anyone from Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact member campuses. Critical Conversation: Historical Perspective on “Unprecedented” Times

2020 has offered no shortage of opportunities for important dialogue about our nation’s future. While dialogue may be more difficult this year as we all reconsider what it means to be together and safe, it has never been more important. At Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact, we believe higher education has a key role to play in both leading the conversations and preparing students for the skills needed for them. Our Critical Conversations reflective dialogue series will support these critical efforts. Through the fall and into 2021, we will offer monthly Critical Conversations dialogue opportunities for students, staff, faculty, and community members interested in building their skills as dialogue participants and facilitators. The monthly sessions will offer an opportunity for reflective practice and engagement on a topical prompt and with featured dialogue tools. The sessions will engage participants in sample dialogues and time to reflect on how the featured prompts and models might translate to their home campuses, organizations, and/or…
