Workshop: The Community College Commitment to Civic Engagement
April 9 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm$25
Civic engagement is vital to the education of all students and a core commitment of higher education. Living out that commitment looks different on a community college campus where student populations and faculty workloads often differ from other institutions.
Join Verdis Robinson, Campus Compact’s director of community college engagement, for a community college workshop. Through a series of small group dialogues, and larger conversations, we will explore the unique challenges and opportunities of community colleges and their critical role in preparing students to be informed, active, and mobilized citizens in their communities, states, and the world. We will also examine aligning civic engagement with other community college priorities.
This workshop is hosted by Campus Compact’s Community Colleges for Democracy, a national network dedicated to the advancement of civic learning and engagement at community colleges. This event is open to community college administrators, faculty, staff, and students from across Iowa and beyond. Attendees do not need to be current Campus Compact members for this special event.
