Iowa Campus Compact Hires Three New Staff Members
Iowa Campus Compact today announced three staff hired for newly-created positions designed to boost nonprofit partnerships, research, and election engagement. These new positions reflect an increase in resources and interest in community-campus partnerships as a vehicle for student education, civic engagement, and nonprofit capacity-building.
Monique Ellefson began work this week as the AmeriCorps VISTA Program Coordinator. She served as the IACC VISTA Leader in 2013-2014 before earning her Masters of Science in Education at Indiana University. Monique got her start as an impassioned student leader at the University of South Dakota, which led her to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA for Oregon Campus Compact at Linfield College.
Kara Trebil-Smith joined the Iowa Campus Compact team last month as a contract Research and Evaluation Specialist. She previously served as the Director of Civic Engagement at Cornell College. She left Cornell to pursue a doctoral degree in higher education from the University of Denver, and is currently working on her dissertation research while serving as the Program Coordinator of Community Engagement at Coe College. She will be supporting a major research initiative to inform nonprofit capacity-building and partnership development.
Samantha Bayne is a sophomore studying Political Science, Law, Politics, and Society, and Philosophy at Drake University. Samantha brought non-partisan discourse programs to her school and interned for a nonpartisan voting rights organization as a first-year. She is now using that experience as the Student Services Senator in Drake’s student government. Her position is funded by a grant from the Campus Election Engagement Project to support student voter engagement.
We will share more information about these projects and programs with our members and partners in the coming weeks. Please join us in welcoming these three outstanding, civic-minded professionals to our team!
