Webinar: Working with Development to Raise Money for Community Engagement

Many professionals (faculty and staff) at universities across the country who work with community engagement efforts aren’t well-versed in the fundraising world. We’re accustomed to applying for grants, but not always with developing relationships with donors. Development professionals haven’t always been a part of community engagement discussions on campus, and we’d like people to consider how to better connect with this group. Workshop with Dr. Stephen Black: Addressing Culture Change in Renewing the Civic Mission of Higher Education

Iowa Campus Compact is hosting a special workshop with Dr. Stephen Black on culture change and renewing the civic mission of higher education. The session will include discussion on the transformative potential of community-campus partnerships, creating opportunities for students to build capacity, and the importance of communicating and telling the story of this work. Participants will have the opportunity to explore creative ideas for moving the community engagement work forward on campus and generating support and creating opportunities for more students. Dr. Black is the founder and leader of the Center for Ethics & Social Responsibility at The University of Alabama, where he has served as Director since 2005. In 2004, Mr. Black also founded Impact Alabama: A Student Service Initiative and currently serves as its President and Chairman of the Board. Campus Compact is pleased to offer a series of workshops and webinars in partnership with John Saltmarsh and the Swearer Center at Brown University, the new administrative home of the the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification. This series will support member campuses that are first-time applicants or reclassifying for the 2020 Carnegie Community Engagement Classification. Registration is open for the inaugural Iowa Civic Action Academy! This is a new, professional development opportunity for students interested in learning new ways of making a difference and building skills through civic and community engagement. It will be held November 3 and 4, 2017 at Grand View University in Des Moines. Students from across the state and beyond (undergraduate, graduate, and beyond) are invited to learn from professional across sectors. Sessions will offer skill-building in civic action including philanthropy, nonprofit leadership, dialogue, advocacy and more.
