Principal Community Scholars: Community Engagement and Talent Development

Nearly two years ago, Iowa Campus Compact developed a new partnership with Principal to offer scholarships for student in business and related majors leading community projects. The Principal Community Scholars Program has now supported nearly 50 students in completing projects, helped them build and reflect on career skills, and introduced them to opportunities at Principal. Join us for a webinar highlighting what we have learned from this program and our plans for the future. Iowa College Voter Engagement Summit

This spring, Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is partnering with Iowa Campus Compact and Campus Election Engagement Project to build an unprecedented statewide college voter registration drive that includes all of Iowa’s colleges and universities. To plan, engaged, and learn, we are bringing together your statewide peers for the Iowa College Voter Engagement Summit at the Iowa State Capitol. This summit will include members of Student Government Associations and other civically engaged student groups across Iowa, as well as staff that work with student engagement. There are be TWO chances to attend this daylong event, in order to fit your busy schedule. You can choose to attend EITHER the session on Friday, April 13 OR the session on Saturday, April 14. Facilitating Dialogue for Community Engagement

An engaged and impassioned community strengthens our democracy, but leading effective dialogue for community engagement has become increasingly difficult, and when derailed, can lead to chaos. Our highly polarized politics contributes to a “win-lose” mentality, limited resources heighten the stakes, and a frayed trust makes tackling public issues fraught. Designing and facilitating effective community dialogue requires coolness, clarity, courage and skill, as well as a clear and effective meeting structure. The University of Iowa and Iowa Campus Compact are teaming up to improve Iowa's public conversations with the "What's Next, Iowa?" initiative, a hub for community-based engagement. We will provide training and materials to help community members lead difficult discussions about public issues. This University-Community partnership is sponsored by the University of Iowa’s Department of Communication Studies and Office of Outreach and Engagement and Iowa Campus Compact. Engaged Campus Awards and Summit

The fifth annual Engaged Campus Awards are coming! We are looking forward to having the event in Cedar Rapids for the first time. An outline of the nomination process is available on the Engaged Campus Awards page. The 2018 Engaged Campus Awards will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. The event will be held at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Presidents, senior leaders, and committee members are invited to join our board meeting at 10 am.
