This is a new, professional development opportunity for students interested in learning new ways of making a difference and building skills through civic and community engagement. It will be held November 3 and 4, 2017 at Grand View University in Des Moines.

Students from across the state and beyond (undergraduate, graduate, and beyond) are invited to learn from professional across sectors. Sessions will offer skill-building in civic action including philanthropy, nonprofit leadership, dialogue, advocacy and more. Students will also have a chance to learn what others are doing on other campuses and network with peers.

Keynote Speaker: Vanessa McNeal MSW, is an accomplished and acknowledged public speaker, executive film producer, and business owner. She informs and transforms audiences through her passion and veracity. Vanessa is a survivor of child abuse and sexual violence, now telling her story as a vehicle to empower, educate, and inspire others.

Vanessa formed her company McNeal Media at 23, and speaks about the leap of faith she took to start her business as a young woman of color. Widely acclaimed for her innovation and creativity, Vanessa shares the secret of turning obstacles and dreams into success.

Vanessa is the Executive Producer of the internationally acclaimed documentary, “The Voiceless”. The documentary features the stories of five male survivors of sexual violence. She is a talented producer nationally known for creating ground breaking films on topics that are often taboo.

Her message has resonated with audiences across the country through the influential topics of sexual violence, childhood trauma, film production, overcoming adversity, leadership, business creativity, and career development/attainment
